“If you’re not assessing, you’re just guessing”
A wise man mentioned this in a course I recently attended and there couldn’t be a truer statement when it comes to working out why you have pain.
I have two separate systems of movement assessment available to me and I combine them both together to get a real understanding of how your body is working and moving. Using both of these together along with traditional orthopaedic assessment provides an in depth understanding of your body’s ability to function and also guides the direction of your Myotherapy treatment and the Functional Movement Training you’ll undertake.
The Functional Movement Group – Functional Assessment/ M.A.T.
The Functional Assessment Course bridges the gap between traditional orthopaedic assessments and functional movements that are performed by people during their daily activities. This assessment uses evidence based functional movement strategies and assessments on the M.A.T (Movement Assessment Tool) to set movement baselines, calculate injury risk and track treatment progression over time.
Selective Functional Movement Asssessment
The SFMA is the movement based diagnostic system, designed to clinically assess 7 fundamental movement patterns in those with known musculoskeletal pain.
The assessment provides an efficient method to systematically find the cause of symptoms, not just the source, by logically breaking down dysfunctional patterns and diagnosing their root cause as either a mobility problem or a stability/motor control problem.
This systematic process allows clinicians to clearly match their intervention to the main problem of the patient. This model efficiently integrates the concepts of altered motor control, the neuro-developmental perspective, and regional interdependence into musculoskeletal practice.
