“Pain occurs when our cup overflows.”
It’s my favourite analogy to use when talking with clients.
I’ve talked about it before here, but essentially, our health, physical, mental and emotional capacity is the “cup”. Meanwhile, stress, work, training, fatigue etc is what goes in the “cup”. When our cup is full, we are at our limit, and when it overflows, we experience pain and injury.
The contents of the cup are not inherently bad. In fact, it’s those stressors in our life that catalyse a reaction in us. It’s those stressors that can build us up, to tolerate more, to cope better and build RESILIENCY.
But how do we make a bigger cup? How do we make ourselves more ROBUST and able to tolerate and cope with these stressors?
I’m running a short session covering 4 key areas that I use to keep my cup from overflowing.
